Funny how a different perspective changes things.
I woke up recently with a pimple on the end of my nose. Rudolph style. I’m 42 years old & I’m thinking “Why on earth is this happening?”, “What am I doing wrong?” & “Boy, do I look stupid.” I wasn’t stressing a ton about it, but I was annoyed.
Then a friend came over. In frustration & in an attempt to point out the elephant in the room, I acknowledged the pimple on my nose. & without missing a beat, she said, “It’s your body reminding you that you still have a lot of youthfulness.”
We laughed & instantly, I felt better. Thx Cathi 😘
We know perspective is powerful. But it’s the little shifts in perspective that can really affect how we feel about ourselves & the world.
We can make these changes with small things & big things too.
I’m going to challenge you, as I’m challenging myself, to make a shift.
When you catch yourself saying, “What’s wrong with me? Why didn’t I do my training today? Why didn’t I keep my commitment to myself?”
Shift your perspective & ask, “What do I need right now?”
If you missed a training session… maybe you needed the rest. Maybe whatever took you from your training was more important. Maybe you need to consider why you skipped: Is it not the right training program for you? Do you need more structure? Less structure? A training partner? Do you need to get up before the kids?
When you’re thinking: “Why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this? Why can’t things go my way?”…
It may help to think instead: “Is there another way to see this?”
Whatever it is, YOU are not a failure. You may just need a shift in perspective.
If you can’t find the silver lining, find a friend who can help flip it for you.
I wish I had taken a pic of that nose pimple. It would’ve made for a better blog post. Next time 😉.
